Research

The University of Idaho Child & Youth Study Center is devoted to advancing the field associated with children with disabilities by developing a research program.  Students from Washington State University and the University of Idaho are involved in data collection, writing publications, and in presenting research findings at conferences.  Given that the program ascribes to a “scientist-practitioner” model of training, the faculty are actively engaging students in scientific discourse.  Specific areas of research include scale development for conduct and disruptive behavior, multi-trait multi-method studies addressing dimensions of childhood disorders, early childhood temperament and “goodness of fit” between parent and child, “process” research addressing deliberate microstrategies in therapeutic communication, and dimensional diagnostic tools for the autistic spectrum.
